Leahy, not Roberts, to preside over impeachment trial

 

上院での米大統領弾劾裁判は最高裁の主席判事が裁判長席に着くのがならわしだが、ロバーツ主席判事は今回、出ないと伝えられる。 退任した大統領の弾劾は憲法上疑義があるとの理由。 政治ショーに司法は関与できないということだろう。 ‪裁判長席には、極めて党派的な民主党の最古参パトリック・レイヒー上院議員が着くという。となれば憲法上、ますます大統領弾劾裁判とは言えない‬

The Constitution doesn’t indicate that removal from office requires two-thirds of the Senate. It requires two-thirds of senators present for the proceedings.

If a few Republicans didn’t appear, that would reduce the number of Republicans required to vote with Democrats.
