As for the military sphere, modern Russia, even after the collapse of the USSR and the loss of a significant part of its potential, is today one of the most powerful nuclear powers in the world and, moreover, has certain advantages in a number of new types of weapons. In this regard, no one should have any doubts that a direct attack on our country will lead to defeat and terrible consequences for any potential aggressor.
At the same time, technologies, including defense technologies, are changing rapidly. Leadership in this area is and will continue to change hands, but the military development of the territories adjacent to our borders, if we allow it to be done, will remain for decades to come, and maybe forever and will create a constantly growing, absolutely unacceptable threat for Russia.
In this regard, in accordance with Article 51 of Part 7 of the UN Charter, with the approval of the Federation Council of Russia and in pursuance of the treaties of friendship and mutual assistance ratified by the Federal Assembly on February 22 of this year with the Donetsk People's Republic and the Lugansk People's Republic, I decided to conduct a special military operation.
Its goal is to protect people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years. And to do this, we will strive for the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, as well as bringing to justice those who committed numerous bloody crimes against civilians, including citizens of the Russian Federation.
Now a few important, very important words for those who may be tempted from the outside to intervene in the events taking place. Whoever tries to prevent us, and even more so to create threats to our country, to our people, should know that Russia's response will be immediate and will lead you to such consequences that you have never faced in your history.
And you and I know that the real strength is in justice and truth, which is on our side

欧米は国連決議なしに様々な国々を爆撃し、ロシアを封じ込めようとしてきた。ロシアへの脅威は隣国までせまり、キエフ政府はウクライナの民族主義者やネオナチをつかってドネツク、ルガンスクの人々の民族虐殺を仕掛けてきた。当地の人々は我々に助けを求めて、ロシアはドネツク人民共和国とルガンスク人民共和国の独立を認め、相互条約を結んだ。国連憲章の５１条の自衛権の発動により、共和国の人々とウクライナのネオナチらを掃討する行動にでたのである。我々は核兵器と高度な軍事力を有しており、我々を攻撃する国々はいままでみたことがないような目にあうだろう。真の強さは正義と真実にある。われわれは正義の真実の側にいるのだ。
