”What he could do is to take the eastern part of Ukraine”

Russia continues troop escalation at Ukraine border, US say - BBC News
The rough rule of thumb in  warfare is if you're an attacker you need three to one advantage right now Russians are not even at  parity

What he could do is to take the eastern part of Ukraine ....he would take the Dnieper river...and control all of the trade going into the Black Sea and he could take out some of....some of the gas pipelines so he could control this country just economically just by taking part of east Ukraine.

"I was a soldier myself not that long ago. I know firsthand that you don't do these sorts of things for no reason," said Austin, a retired Army general. "And you certainly don't do them if you're getting ready to pack up and go home."

"We see them fly in more combat and support aircraft. We see them sharpen their readiness in the Black Sea," Austin said. "We even see them stocking up their blood supplies."

Russian-backed rebels and Ukrainian forces traded accusations on Thursday of firing shells across the ceasefire line in eastern Ukraine, and Kyiv said the incidents looked like a "provocation" at a time when Russia has troops massed on the frontier.

In Russia the message is we have to defend Russian speakers in Ukraine: they are at risk of genocide .
