“I keep being told that class is not relevant any more or that it does not exist, but it has its roots laid firmly in the British way of life, ever since the property laws of ancient Rome,” he says. “For it to exist for 2,000 years and then suddenly stop because Thatcher didn’t want to talk about it any more is ridiculous – people need to challenge their assumptions about themselves.
