 上の世代が経験したような成長を知らずに成人した世代の人間からみれば、日本はいまだに環境を脅かす成長一辺倒の資本主義に突き動かされる巨大消費社会と映るのではないか。

 同氏は、その世代が自分の本を読んでいるとみている。そして、その読者層は、著書で提唱する体制の変革があり得ないことではないと感じていると推察している。もちろん、日本は、革命の熱気に包まれているわけではない。しかし、脱成長の哲学を静かに受け入れた日本人が少なからずいるのかもしれない。
